Our School Day

The School Day

Below is a typical day at school for children in Years 1-4. Reading, English and maths are taught in the morning, with science, RE and other Foundation Subjects taught in the afternoon. Termly Curriculum News is sent home which details information about PE days and other important timetable information.

EYFS children will experience a different type of day, dependent on the time of the year and the learning which is being supported. Further information will be provided via the Curriculum News document sent home.

From September 2024, our school day will finish at 3.30pm, which will ensure we meet the requirements set out by the DfE.

Arrival at school

Our playground gates open at 8:45 am each school morning. Parents are welcome to wait in the playground with their children until 8.50 when children should start to make their own way into school. The register is taken as children come into class, and 'Early morning activities' are in place for the 10 minute registration period. Registers close at 9.00 when the first lesson of the day begins (phonics and reading). Parents and carers of children in EYFS are able to drop their children off directly at the classroom door.

Daily Collective Worship

Each day our school community comes together for our daily collective worship. A typical week looks like this:

Playtime

We are very fortunate to have a large playing field, tennis court, school garden, galaxy climbing frame, 'Mount Northill' play mound with slide, playground area and outdoor classroom.

Children play together each morning and again at Lunch time. Teachers also have the discretion of an optional afternoon break for pupils, depending on the need of the class at the time.

Home time

The normal school day ends at 3:15pm. Parents are welcomed through the school gate to collect their children at the end of the school day. The children are asked to remain with their teacher until they can go with the person who collects them. If you are unavoidably delayed your child will remain with staff until we can contact you.  Please inform the school if someone different is collecting your children.
