Mercury is our Early Years foundation stage class. As a school we feel it is essential to give children a positive and engaging start to their academic lives. 

The learning in Early Years builds on their prior knowledge and follows the children's interests to encourage a love of learning and exploration. 

The areas of the curriculum are broken down into seven areas of learning and development. 

The three prime areas are 

• Communication and language
• Physical development
• Personal, social and emotional development

There are 4 specific areas of learning which help strengthen and develop the three prime areas and ignite children's curiosity and enthusiasm. 

The specific areas are:

• Literacy
• Maths
• Understanding the world 
• Expressive arts and design
